Welcome to my philatelic art gallery. This is where I will showcase my art on stamps collection. This page will go through many different transformations as I post the individual stamps. In time I imagine that there will be many individual pages to this section. To start with I will have paintings. This will be followed by other art types such as photography, statues, etc…

Artists
17th Century Flemish School
Flemish painting flourished from the early 15th century until the 17th century, gradually becoming distinct from the painting of the rest of the Low Countries. Flemish Baroque painting was especially important in the first half of the 17th century, dominated by Rubens.
Aivazovsky, Ivan
Aivazovsky (July 29, 1817 – May 2, 1900) was born in Fedosia a port on the Black Sea. He painted mainly in his native Crimea. He painted in the romantic style and is considered one of the greatest marine artists in history.
Aylward, William J
Aylward (September 5, 1875 – February 26, 1956) was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Art Student’s League in New York City and various European artists. Many of his early work was maritime themed and he also became an official war artist for the US Government.
Baschenis, Evaristo
Baschenis (December 7, 1617 – March 16, 1677) was a baroque painter who was most active around his native Bergamo, Italy. He is best known for “Still lifes”, usually of musical instruments.
Beukelaer
Beuckelaer (c. 1533 – c. 1573/4) was a Flemish painter who specialized in kitchen and market scenes. He was well known for the elaborate details and display of food and household equipment.
Bonnevalle, Oscar
Bonnevalle (1920 – 1993) was a Belgian artist and film maker.
Botticelli
Boticelli (1445 – 1710) was an early Italian renaissance painter. He was a member of the Florentine school. It wasn’t until much after his death that the beauty of his work was truly appreciated.
Boucher, François
Boucher (September 29, 1703 – May 30, 1770) was a French artist who worked in the Rococo style. He was one of the most popular painters in the 18th century.
Breitner, Georges H
Breitner (September 12, 1857 – June 5, 1923) was a Dutch painter and photographer and was important in “Amsterdam Impressionism.”
He was educated at the Art Academy in the Hague, and for a time worked as an art teacher. He is known for introducing social realism to the Netherlands. His paintings of street scenes and harbours is what he is noted for.
Brocky
Károly Brocky (May 22, 1808 – 1855) was a Hungarian born painter who was the son of a hairdresser. His father died when Brocky was young and became a travelling actor.
After much testing he was accepted to a free drawing school in Vienna and then to the École du Louvre in Paris. When he was 30, he visited London and decided to live there. 1839 saw his first contribution to the Royal Academy.
Broederlam, Melchior
Broederlam (c. 1350 – c. 1409) is one of the earliest Dutch painters that works can be confidently attributed to. The majority of his work was done for the Duke of Burgundy.
Bruegel
Also known as Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1925 – September 9, 1569) was the most significant artist of Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting.
He was known for his landscapes and peasant scenes.
Brueghel, Pieter the Younger
The son of Bruegel the Elder, Brueghel the Younger (c. 1564 – c. 1638) concentrated on landscapes, religious and village scenes.
He lived in Antwerp and his studio was widely known for painting copies of his fathers works for both local and export sales.
Caravaggio, M
Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (September 29, 1591 – July 18, 1610) was an Italian painter who trained in Milan and was active in Rome, Malta, Sicily and Naples.
His works are known for the realistic portrayal of the human state.
Carr, Emily
Carr (December 13, 1871 – March 2, 1945) was a Canadian artist that was heavily influenced by the Indigienous people of the North West.
Carr was one of the first Canadian artists to adopt a modernist and post-impressionist style. She is described by the Canadian Encyclopedia as a Canadian Icon.
Cassatt, Mary
Cassatt (May 22, 1844 – June 14, 1926) was an American born painter and print maker. She lived her adult life in France and befriended Degas while she was there.
She was an impressionist painter and was know for her paintings of the private lives of women and capturing the bond between mother and child.
Cézanne, Paul
Cézanne (January 19, 1836 – October 22, 1906) was a French artist and painter. His work laid the foundation of change for the transition of art from the 19th to the 20th century.
It is said that both Matisse and Picasso said that Cézanne was “the father of us all”.
Chardin, J
Chardin (November 2nd, 1699 – December 6th, 1779) was a French painter.
He is considered a master of still life and genre paintings. He lived along the left bank of the Seine until Louis XIV granted him a studio and apartment in the Louvre.
Christus, P
Petrus Christus (circa 1410 – 1475) was a Dutch painter who was active in Bruges. Influenced by Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden, Christus became the leading painter of van Eyck.
Colantonio
Niccolò Antonio Colantonio (circa 1420 – 1460) was an Italian Painter who was active in Naples between 1440 and 1460. Not much is known about his life, but his style was heavily influenced by the Flemish style.
Copley, John S
John Singleton Copley (1738 – 1815) was an American/British painter. Born on July 3, in Boston relatively little is known about Copley’s early up bringing and education. He left for England in 1774.
Corinth, Lovis
Born Franz Heinrich Louis (1858 – 1925) on July 28, 1858 he was educated at the Academy in Königsberg. After leaving school he left for Munich where he studied under Löfftz. In 1888 he returned to Königsberg from Paris and adopted the name Lovis Corinth.
Corot
Camille Corot (1796 – 1875) was born on July 16th in Paris, France. He was well known as a portrait and landscape painter. He had difficulties while studying at the Lycée Pierre-Corneille and dropped out. Corot’s dad arranged for him to apprentice as a draper and while he didn’t like it he gained an appreciation of textures and colours. At 26 he pursued a career as an artist.
Costa, Lorenzo
Lorenzo Costa was born in 1460 in Ferrara the capital of Emilia-Romagna, in northern Italy. He was located in Bologna by his twenties which leads some people to believe he was influenced by the Bolognese School. In 1509 he moved to Mantua where he became the court painter for Marquis Francesco Gonzaga. He died on the 5th of March 1535 in Mantua.
Courbet, Gustave
Gustave Courbet was a French realist painter born in 1819, in Ornans Doub. He moved to Paris in 1839 and after a brief stay at the studio of Steuben and Hesse he went of and developed his own style. He was a part of the Paris Commune and after it was suppresed by the French military he was arrested. Courbet died on December 31, 1877 of liver disease.
Cranach, Lucas
Lucas Cranach the elder was a German renaissance painter and printmaker. He was the court painter for the Electors of Saxony and a personal friend of Martin Luther.
Csontvary
Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka was a Hungarian Painter who was part of the Avant Garde movement. He is known as one of Hungary’s greatest painters and was one of the first to be known in Europe. He was born July 5, 1853 in Kisszeben, Sáros County, Kingdom of Hungary and died on June 20, 1919 in Budapest.
